Yapp Charitable Trust
We make grants for running costs and salaries to small registered charities in England and Wales to help sustain their existing work. We will not fund work that does not focus specifically on one of our priority groups. Applicants that reflect our grant making policy have the best chance of success. We offer grants only to registered charities with a total annual expenditure of less than £40,000.

Funded for amount requested - applied in 2023
YAPP set out their application process very clearly. They are also very clear on which organisations they might fund, and for what reasons.
The application process is straightforward, but YAPP obviously require a lot of detail about the organisation who is submitting an application.
Anyone applying should check they fit with what YAPP do fund, have plenty of knowledge about their own organisation and can clearly and carefully set out why funding is required and who will benefit.
YAPP will keep you informed of the timeline your application process takes, and will contact you if they have any queries themselves about your application.
If anything you've submitted requires further explanation, YAPP will give you the opportunity to provide it.

The process was detailed, as you'd expect from any organisation looking to provide funding, but all information asked for was obviously very necessary.
In fact, the format allowed us to explain exactly how our own charity operates, and at the end of the process, as our application was submitted, I actually felt really good about what we do.
How successfully do you think this funder is accomplishing its goals as a funder?

Tell us one thing that this funder does really well
Communicates really well....especially on the expected timeline, from our application being submitted right up until a decision might be expected.
There was further explanation required from us on one particular query YAPP had, and we were given the opportunity of providing it....some funders might not have given organisations applying the same opportunity.
If you had one piece of advice to give to this funder (about grantmaking or anything else), what would it be?
It sounds like a cop out, but I honestly cannot think of anything that YAPP could do better. I felt I was dealing with a well-organised funder, which was set up very professionally.

That Yapp consider applications carefully. Our grant was for ongoing running of the charity so funding needn't be for a special additional project.

YAPP have been really helpful in offering a grant over a three year period. We are a small charity with a turnover of just £30K per annum but the £2K per year over three years has been really helpful to us in contributing to our running costs and funding a range of activities for our beneficiaries.
YAPP have been great and we would recommend them to organisations thinking of making an application for funding.

No advice at all - it would have been great to receive all the money we requested but we totally understand the demands all charitable trusts have on thier resources and we were more than happy to receive a grant of £2K pa for three years to assist us with our work.
